Stainless steel from a single cast – since 1961

In 1961, Sigrid and Dieter Schmees founded in Langenfeld their own wage turning shop in a garage. Only a few years later, the garage had become 2,000m² of land and in 1968, the wage turning shop had been enlarged and the foundry operation begun.

1961
  • On November 1st, Sigrid und Dieter Schmees set up their own wage turning shop in a rented garage.
1966
  • Acquisition of a 2.307 m² plot at Rudolf-Dieser-Weg 6 and construction of a workshop for a wage turning shop.
1968
  • Expansion of the hall as well as the purchase of a used graphite rod furnace and on 26 October the 1st tapping took place
1972
  • Entry into the commercial register on December 19th.
1975
  • Purchase of an induction furnace
1980
  • Construction of the ceramics department
  • Sand casting changed to cold box
1985
  • Purchase of a medium-frequency crucible furnace.
1992
  • Acquisition of former Copitzer Guß GmbH.
1993
  • Relocation of headquarters from Langenfeld to Pirna/Saxony.
  • Clemens Schmees takes over management in the 2nd generation.
1994
  • Certification from TÜV according to DIN EN ISO 9001
2000
  • Purchase of a medium-frequency crucible furnace plant with tandem configuration.
2002
  • Renovation of the blowing room in Pirna
2004
  • Construction of a new office building at Plant Langenfeld.
  • Construction of a model storage hall at Pirna.
2005
  • Expansion of a workshop building with crane runway and foremen’s offices on the existing foundry halls.
2006
  • Founding of “Netzwerk Rapid Manufacturing”.
  • Acquisition of a 5t induction fornace for Plant Pirna
  • New construction of heat treating center and model workshop at Pirna.
2007
  • Acquisition of a 10.000 m² neighboring plot, including a production hall at Langenfeld.
2008
  • Planning and construction of the new prodiction hall at Langenfeld and Pirna with crane runways, stripping stations, sand processing facilities with chromite seperations and cold box mixers.
2009
  • Commissioning of the new moulding shop and foundry at Langenfeld and Pirna.
  • Commissioning of the new production hall at Pirna
  • Entry into the Encyclopedia of German Family-Owned Companies
2010
  • Expansion of the art grinding workshop to mirror polishing in Pirna.
2011
  • Anniversary – 50 years Edelstahlwerke Schmees.
2012
  • Anniversary – 20 years Standort Pirna.
2013
  • Certification of energy management by TÜV according to ISO 50001:2011.
  • Introduction of an ERP system in both plants.
2014
  • New construction of the administration building in Pirna
  • Introduction of a 3 Litre PPS system for effective capacity management.
2015
  • Commisioning of a new heat treating and blowing hall at Langenfeld.
  • Construction of a heat recovery plant for sustainable heating of offices and mechanical workshops at Pirna.
2016
  • Construction of a central storage for incoming goods at Langenfeld. Relaunch of the logo and development of the brands SCHMEES cast and SCHMEES art
2017
  • Anniversary: 25 years plant Pirna
2018
  • Modernization and expansion of mechanical processing technology
2020
  • Introduction of the registered material brand seculloy® designed by SCHMEES
